Summary and Setup

This lesson follows the performance analysis deck by Maxim Masterov (15.05.2025), adapted and updated by Rohit Goswami. You time a run, name what limits it, and read a roofline.

Prerequisite

• You can run time -p in a terminal.
• For the Slurm episodes, you can submit a job on Snellius or the course cluster.

Sign in to the SURF user portal before the first SSH login.

The portal is https://portal.cua.surf.nl/. If the network is not trusted, the welcome mail names a door node. Use that host instead.

The course cluster is a SURF Research Cloud workspace. The login address is the one in the welcome note. The trainer’s setup link sets the password. There is no CUA account.
